Surrogate Spouse, Surrogate Savior, Part 2

Part 2 of my interview with Roy, Kim, LMFT who is a marriage and a family therapist in Los Angeles, California is up on his podcast The Same Boat. If you haven't listented to Part 1, you can go HERE. In this part 2 episode, we talk about growing up as parentified children with immigrant parents, and how we can respond to support ourselves and deepen connection with our parents. We discuss the importance of intentionally creating space for ourselves, our emotions, and our needs. We also explore the fear of losing our identity or role as a caregiver in our families. We also talk more about the consequences that being parentified has on us and our relationships, and possible ways we might begin to respond to heal and deepen our relationships with others.
