Paul Chang, AMFT

I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist with Level II Restoration Therapy certification, currently training under the supervision of Elizabeth Rhee, LMFT #122155, in Los Angeles, California. My clinical experience includes working with adults, couples, teens, and families from diverse cultural, socio-economic, and ethnic backgrounds in community health and nonprofit settings. I also bring five years of experience in spiritual formation and soul care, having worked with individuals and groups in graduate-level classrooms, retreat centers, and faith-based communities. Alongside this, my training in psychodynamic therapy has helped me to offer deep understanding and support each client’s unique journey.

Over the years, I’ve found joy in connecting with clients from all walks of life—teens, young adults, middle-aged individuals, and couples—both married and unmarried. I have been honored to support people through challenges such as grief & loss, addiction, identity struggles, relationship difficulties, self-criticism, cultural issues, singlehood, depression, anxiety, spiritual concerns, family dynamics, and major life transitions. I believe your experiences are layered and complex, and I approach each layer with compassion, curiosity, and deep respect for your individual story.

Being raised as a child of Korean immigrant parents in the southern U.S. has given me a unique perspective on culture and connection. Growing up at the intersection of Eastern and Western values has helped me understand how our backgrounds shape who we are and how we relate to others. As a second-generation Korean American cis man– along with my many other identities– I bring the insights and personal lessons from my journey into my work. These experiences help me create meaningful and compassionate connections with my clients, allowing us to build a trusting and supportive relationship where your story is truly valued.

My purpose is to walk alongside you as you seek hope, healing, and personal growth, offering guidance and gentle care as you discover your own strength. I believe in creating a safe and grounded space where you can explore life’s most difficult and vulnerable issues without fear of judgment. For me, it’s a privilege to share in your process—whether it’s through your struggles, your victories, or the quiet in-between moments.

My Approach

supportive
intuitive
empowering

At the heart of the healing process is the therapeutic relationship we build together. I strive for a collaborative, client-centered approach in each session, aiming to create a space that feels supportive and empowering. Clients and colleagues have described my style as gentle, intuitive, and honest.

I primarily use Restoration Therapy, which focuses on healing and transforming the core beliefs that lead to pain and unhelpful coping mechanisms. Alongside this, I integrate a Psychodynamic approach to explore the lasting impacts of early life experiences. Whenever possible, I also incorporate elements of Internal Family Systems and my intuitiveness as a spiritual director to enrich our work together. My goal is to tailor the therapeutic process to meet your unique needs and help you navigate your path to healing and growth.

THERAPIST-CLIENT FIT IS IMPORTANT TO THE THERAPY EXPERIENCE

I offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation to determine if we might be a good fit to work together. It takes courage to reach out for support. I consider it a privilege to journey alongside you toward your healing and wellness that empowers you to live out your most authentic life.
