friendship Therapy
We often find that friends want to come in to work on their platonic relationship. It’s common for your friendship to change during different seasons of life throughout changing careers, marriage, parenting, divorce, grief, chronic medical illness, and other life transitions. It’s often the case that the relationship difficulties between friends can sometimes be just as painful as the ones you experience in your family and romantic partnerships. Our clients often find that working through their challenges with a beloved friend in a safe and therapeutic environment helps them engage in meaningful conversations that support change in the relationship as well as discover new possibilities moving forward.
You and your friend may benefit from therapy if you hope to:
Deepen the level of intimacy and connection within the relationship
Gain insight to the relational patterns of negative emotions that you engage in together that maintain being “stuck”
Learn how your histories impact your relationship and to be proactive in promoting relational health
Better resolve misunderstandings
Learn to take responsibility for your contribution to the relationship difficulties
Reduce conflict, learn triggers, and develop strategies for navigating arguments and engaging in relational responses that promote closeness
Discover ways to support your friendship during life’s transitions
